A New Website: The Start

After some discussion on the developer mailing list, a group of us have decided to look at updating the BibleTime website. The current website is static, looking somewhat dated, and manually updated. With the recent launch of this blog, and BibleTime starting to make an appearance on the Social Networking scene, we thought that a more dynamic and sociable site would be a better way forward.

In the past I have mentioned the Drupal content management system as a replacement for our site. When we started thinking about starting a blog, I once again suggested Drupal, for two reasons.

Firstly, it's a top class CMS. It has been voted the best open source CMS before; it's module system is incredibly flexible and allows us to add additional functionality without affected the existing system. Also, it has a better security track record than other systems like Joomla or WordPress.

Secondly, I knew we'd most probably be migrating to a CMS some time in the near future, and I wanted to be able to integrate the blog with the rest of the site when it came along. Using Drupal for the blog meant that when we moved to a CMS for the site, we could just build on the blog, and thus have integration with the blog from the word "go".

So, now that we are embarking on this venture, we are in need of a few things, and I was wondering if there are perhaps folks in our community would like to help out with the new site. We need a nice new design for the site, we need the content of the old site repurposed and copied to the new site translated, and we need translators to translate the new site's content.

If you're interested in helping out, please either join us in IRC, comment on this blog post (you'll need to register and log in) or send an e-mail to our developer mailing list.

God bless!
